About The Course :-
Shipping is continuously growing industry, and trained persons find jobs in Indian and foreign companies. Attempts are being made to create new openings and facilitate employment of ratings. GP Rating candidates are those who have been trained in both Deck and Engine Room duties. Such ratings may be employed in either department according to the needs of the company. Ratings participate in seamanship activities, cargo handling, maintenance work, operation and maintenance of machinery.

Starting January 2012 entry batches, all trainees seeking admission in GP Rating Course at Government approved ratings training institutes will need to pass the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by Board of Examinations for Seafarers Trust (BES).
Educational Qualification :-
Pass with aggregate 40% marks in 10th Standard from Govt. recognized board with Science, English & Maths as subjects.Minimum 40 % in English at 10th Std. or in 10+2, or in Diploma or Degree or ITI I.T.I. – 2 Year Engineering Trades from Govt. Approved Institute with minimum 50% aggregate marks in final year and minimum
Age Limit :-
Age should not be less than 17.5 Yrs and not to exceed 25 Yrs prior to the date of commencement of course.
Physical and Medical Standards :-
Medically fit as per the standards set by Merchant Shipping Medical Examination Rules, 2000 as amended from time to time.
Eye-sight :- 6/6 in each eye without visual aids. Normal colour vision. Candidates may have to undergo a full eyesight test conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) before being finally selected for the programme.
